Albuquerque was founded in 1706. In 2006, Albuquerque celebrated it’s tricentinial. The City of Albuquerque has approximately 550,000 residents and is the largest city in New Mexico. The Greater Albuquerque and Surrounding Areas is home to an estimated 750,000 residents. The Albuquerque Metropolitan Area is approximately 400 square miles at elevations from 4,500 square feet above sea level to 6,500 square feet at the foot of the Sandia Mountains.

Albuquerque offers all four seasons but still averages 310 days of sunshine per year. The average temperature is a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Annual rainfall averages about eight inches per year and annual snowfall averages about 11 inches per year.

Albuquerque is well known for being the balloon capital of the world. It all began in 1972 with 13 hot air balloons launching from a shopping mall parking lot. Now each year there are well over 700 balloons that launch from the 365 acre Balloon Fiesta Park. It is the largest ballooning event on earth!
