The Albuquerque Metropolitan Area is approximately 400 square miles at elevations from 4,500 square feet above sea level to 6,500 square feet at the foot of the Sandia Mountains.
Albuquerque offers all four seasons but still averages 310 days of sunshine per year. The average temperature is a comfortable 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Annual rainfall averages about eight inches per year and annual snowfall averages about 11 inches per year.
According to the 2002 American Community Survey, the median age is 35.2 years. 25% were under the age of 18, 10% were between the ages of 18-24, 31% were between the ages of 25-44, 22% were between the ages of 45-65, and 12% were 65+ years old.
Albuquerque is well known for being the balloon capital of the world. It all began in 1972 with 13 balloons launching from a shopping mall parking lot. Now each year there are well over 700 balloons that launch from the 365 acre Balloon Fiesta Park. It is the largest ballooning event on earth! If you are feeling adventurous you may want to consider going for a hot air balloon ride. It only costs around 295 bucks for an hour long ride. Hot air ballon rides are always fun and memorable experiences to share with family and friends!
